Review from January 2023:
Brilliant

Best B&B we have ever stayed at. To put that into some sort of perspective for you, since 2011 my wife and I have stayed at B&Bs in the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, throughout Europe and in Australia and this one tops the list. Chris & Jane are excellent, refreshing, knowledgeable but not overbearing or intrusive hosts who, on top of everything else, prepare a great breakfast responsive to the requirements of all. Simply the best.

Review from November 2022:
An excellent inn in downtown Roanoke!

We've stayed at a lot of bed and breakfasts, and this is one of the very best. Chris and Jayne have thought of everything. They had great suggestions of things to do and where to eat. The home was sparkling clean, the beds were comfortable, there were plenty of gathering spaces - including a fantastic, covered deck with a heater and an outdoor fire pit, and breakfast was delicious and plentiful. I would give the Black Lantern Inn ten stars if I could!

Wonderful B&B and great hosts

I stayed in the Skyline Suite and it was even more beautiful than I expected. Chris and Jayne are wonderful innkeepers who made me feel so welcome in their home. Jayne's cooking is delicious and she puts in extra effort to make sure breakfast is amazing. Chris makes sure that everything you need is available, and even built a special place to wash down your bike. I was there for 3 nights and felt like a part of their family by the time I left. If you are planning a trip to Roanoke this is definitely the best place to stay!

Highest of Ratings! Black Lantern Inn is THE Place to Stay in Roanoke!

Literally everything about our stay at Black Lantern Inn was perfect! Chris and Jayne are wonderful, personable people, and they made us feel so welcomed. THE highlight of many was the healthy and delicious breakfast that included made-from-scratch gluten-free cinnamon coffee cake fresh out of the oven. We loved spending time on the lovely covered porch, too.

Great place to stay near the center of town

Stayed there three nights to participate in the Ironman 70.3 race. What a great experience - my time at the B&B was better than the race. Great rooms, wonderful food (who ever heard of a great tasting GF cinnamon cake), and truly engaging conversations. Our hosts even offered to drive us to the race site at 4am!

It was a real pleasure spending time there. I look forward to going back next year.

Excellent B&B in Roanoke

My wife and I stayed in the Skyline Suite the night of our wedding in 2018. We have returned every year since. We enjoyed the hospitality and shared breakfast (before covid) and the food-in-your-room option (covid-times). Chris and Jayne have been delightful and welcoming each time.

Recently stayed there again at the end of February 2021 and loved the comfortable accommodations that include: mini-fridge and microwave in the room, breakfast nook table, private bathroom, the best bed I've ever slept-in, and a big room for lounging.

Exceeded Our Expectations!

My husband and I were on a Blue Ridge Parkway trip. I used Trip Advisor to find all of our accommodations. The Black Lantern was rated very high, but I still tend to worry. It exceeded our expectations!! It was a beautiful place and Chris & Jayne were awesome Innkeepers!! Chris greeted us outside as we were walking in and Jax, their little dog, greeted us inside. Chris was so knowledgeable about all the history and places to go in the area, including restaurants. My husband and I had such a great time walking the area around the B & B, on our way to a restaurant he had recommended. A lot of beautiful old homes. The restaurant was a burger place and it was as delicious as Chris said it was going to be. When you look out from the back of the Inn, there is a huge star on the top of a hill. Chris had told us all about the history of the Star. We still had about an hour before it got dark, so we drove up there to check it out. It was worth the short drive. It is not only the Star, but it has a beautiful park surrounding the Star. We headed back to the Inn and played a game outside on the porch on the second floor which was right outside our room. It was a beautiful night and we could see the big beautiful Star, all lit up. The rooms are all beautiful! Chris and Jayne greeted and talked to us all at breakfast the next morning. This particular morning they had a continental breakfast which was delicious!! We did not walk away hungry. We had a wonderful stay! I would highly recommend it. If we travel that way again, we will definitely stay there.

Very Comfortable

We enjoyed our stay, the Inn Keepers were very friendly and helped us locate places to see and eat. The 3rd floor room was Very Comfortable, it was like a small apartment. The back porch with the view of Roanoke Star on Mill Mountain is spectacular. We enjoyed a very nice breakfast and enjoyed talking with the other guest and inn keepers.

Look forward to returning this summer for another stay.

last nite for vacation

The Inn can over be described as warm and inviting reflective of its hosts, Jayne and Chris. Our room was luxurious though very comfortable , a perfect place to relax, read a book, drink a glass of wine or beer or just nap. Breakfast was delicious accompanied by great conversations with Jayne and Chris. It was the last night of our vacation heading home and we wish we had more time. We definitely will return to the black Lantern Inn.
